Tangram

The classic Chinese puzzle in 3D: use all seven pieces to fill the shape drawn on the floor.

255 shapes to build: the classic square, triangle and rectangle, well-known figures like the swan, the cat or the rabbit, and many odd silhouettes. Pick any of them from the shapes menu. Many classic figures come from the KiloGram research dataset (Cornell University, 2022), digitized from Jerry Slocum's The Tangram Book. Drag, turn and flip the pieces, and look at the table from above or from any angle.

Also known as: Seven boards of skill

How to play

  1. Use all seven pieces to fill the shape on the floor. The outline in the corner is the reference.
  2. Pieces cannot overlap. They stick to each other when their corners meet.
  3. Turn and flip them until they fit.

A bit of history

The tangram comes from China, where it was known as the "seven boards of skill". It became a craze in Europe and America in the early 1800s.
