Hand and Foot
Hand and Foot is the Canasta that families play around the kitchen table: every player gets a Hand and a Foot of 11 cards. Play your whole hand, pick up your foot, make books of seven and go out first.
Play against penguins (easy, normal or sharp) or open an online table for 2 to 6 people; with 4 or 6 you play in pairs. Choose 1 or 4 rounds and whether you need one or two books of each kind to go out.
Also known as: Hand and Foot Canasta
How to play
- On your turn draw 2 cards, or pick up the pile if you hold two cards like its top card.
- Meld 3 to 7 cards of the same rank; jokers and 2s are wild but always fewer than the naturals. 7 cards make a book: clean 500, dirty 300.
- Play all of your hand to pick up your foot. To go out you must be in your foot and your team needs its books.
A bit of history
Hand and Foot grew out of Canasta, the Uruguayan card game that swept the Americas in the 1950s; the extra 'foot' pile became a North American family favorite.
